CT Cantina & Taqueria Brings DĂa de los Muertos to Life at Halcyon

By The Forsyth Foodie

Happy Fall, Yall…Last night, I had the chance to step into a world of vibrant color, soulful tradition, and bold flavor at CT Cantina & Taqueria Mexican Restaurant at the flagship location in Halcyon. Their annual Día de los Muertos celebration is not just a themed event—it’s an immersive experience that blends authentic cultural roots with CT’s signature hospitality and inventive menu.

Honoring DĂa de los Muertos

Dia de los Muertos at CT CantinaFor those unfamiliar, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday observed on November 1st and 2nd. It’s a joyful occasion where families honor loved ones who have passed, welcoming them back with altars, marigolds, music, and food. Unlike Halloween, this tradition is not about fright, but about remembrance and celebration of life.

At CT Cantina, the restaurant transforms into a tapestry of sugar skull motifs, glowing candles, and ofrendas (altars) adorned with marigolds and photos. The atmosphere is festive yet reverent, a reminder of how food and community connect us to those who came before.

Mini Eats, Big Flavor

The highlight of my evening was exploring CT’s brand-new Mini Eats Happy Hour menu, designed for those who want to graze, sip, and linger with friends. Think street taco-inspired bites in shareable form, crispy empanada halves packed with spiced meats, and mini tostadas with just the right crunch. Each bite felt like a concentrated burst of flavor, portioned perfectly for happy hour conversations.

But, fair warning, while they’re called “mini” eats, the delicious fillings of Chicken, Pastor, Barbacoa, Tinga, Carnitas, Chorizo and Steak are piled high on Street Tacos and topped with cilantro, onion, and salsa Roja. I found these dishes simple but delicious with complex tastes just the way owner and founder, Rafael Jaime, who is originally from Jalisco, Mexico, wants us to experience this cuisine.

Pair these tasty dishes with choices from the mini sips cocktail menu—playful, vibrant versions of CT’s classics. Imagine a 3-ounce margarita, Paloma, or Cantarito, each glass showcasing a different flavor: tangy hibiscus, smoky mezcal, and bright pineapple-jalapeño. These mini pours invite you to experiment without committing to just one. There are mini-pours for wine and beer drinkers as well.

And then there are the desserts. CT’s kitchen rolled out mini churros dusted in cinnamon sugar, paired with silky chocolate and caramel dipping sauces. Small in size, big in indulgence.

The attention to detail in the decorations cannot be overstated. CT’s walls bloomed with colorful papel picado banners, painted skulls, and candlelit displays. Servers were warm and friendly, and live music carried the evening’s joy.

What struck me most was the way the celebration felt authentic—less like a marketing gimmick, more like a thoughtful nod to the holiday’s heritage. The staff took time to explain elements of the décor and menu inspired by the tradition, making the night as educational as it was delicious.

Why You Should Go

If you’re looking for more than just dinner—if you want an experience steeped in culture, flavor, and festivity—mark CT Cantina & Taqueria on your calendar this season. Their Día de los Muertos celebration is a limited-time highlight, and the new Mini Eats menu is worth revisiting again and again.

Between the rich flavors, festive atmosphere, and the sense of connection to a tradition that bridges life and memory, CT offers something truly special. And, while each location offers the same delicious menu, the decorations and ambiance are different so visiting each Fayetteville (Trilith) or Dunwoody will give you a slightly different experience than Halcyon’s location.

So, grab your friends, raise a mini margarita, and toast to life, love, and legacy at CT Cantina & Taqueria.

Mini Hour Cocktails and Bites are available for a limited time at all CT Cantina & Taquerias Monday -Friday from 2pm to 5pm.
