The State of Georgia has begun issuing $1 billion in Special Tax Refunds — Here’s What Forsyth County Residents Need to Know
Big news for Forsyth County, Georgia taxpayers: Special, one-time surplus tax refunds are coming, and payments are set to begin this week. Governor Brian Kemp’s office confirmed that the state will distribute $1 billion in tax refunds to eligible residents, thanks to a surplus of money built into House Bill 112, signed into law on April 15, 2025.
How Much Will You Receive?
Eligible Georgia taxpayers will receive refund amounts based on their filing status:
💰 $250 for single filers or married individuals filing separately
💰 $375 for heads of household
💰 $500 for married couples filing jointly
These special tax refunds are automatic for those who filed their 2023 state income taxes on time and meet the eligibility requirements.
Why the Refund Now?
This round of refunds is part of a broader tax relief package that also includes House Bill 111, which reduced Georgia’s income tax rate from 5.39% to 5.19%. The goal is to return a portion of the state’s budget surplus directly to taxpayers — including thousands of residents here in Forsyth County.
